Use of FACE assessments
Training in use of the FACE assessments includes the following:
Introduction to the content of the FACE Assessments - clinicians are taken through the assessments, definitions of items are explained and the structure of the tools outlined.
- Principles of assessment - users are taken through the 'Rules of Thumb' document, explaining general principles of rating and assessment.
- Severity rating using sample descriptions - users are asked to rate sets of sample descriptions to establish basic competence in rating levels of severity.
- Rating of vignettes - users are asked to complete the FACE assessment on one of the standardised vignettes. The group then discusses their ratings and issues raised by divergences of rating or opinion or in completing the assessment.
- FACE recommends that staff receive all the above components, including rating at least 2 full vignettes. Ideally, this should be spread over 2 sessions and may include homework (e.g. rating of a vignette).
